We’ve all done it… Impulse beauty purchases of products that promise the world but that simply didn’t deliver.

In this skin care series I share with you some of the most important things you need to know to make smarter skin care choices. The science of skin care is the first piece of the puzzle. What we apply to our skin on a daily basis can nourish our skin and promote healthy collagen and elastin. This truly is the aim of the game after all!

In my latest video on YouTube I share with you some of the key aspects you need to know for purchasing the right facial cream for your skin type.

I love educating others to make smarter skin care choices and avoid the beauty fads and gimmicks. As a consumer myself, I’m constantly learning also! The only difference is that I get direct access to published research on some of the best skin care options available in a medical rejuvenation setting.

Firstly, you need to consider your skin type
  • Acne prone (even if you get a pimple a month)
  • Dry (craves hydration)
  • Sensitive (redness and sensitivity to many over the counter products)
  • Combination (sometimes both oily and dry)
  • Rosacea (more on this later because often general redness and sensitivity is an indicator of needing to revamp the skin care routine)
Then you need to consider the season
  • Summer (perspiring more)
  • Fall (change of season)
  • Winter (dry indoor heating)
  • Spring (change of season)
Budget

Of course you need to consider your budget and please, oh PLEASE, never spend more than $200 on a skin care product. EVER.

Application

Regarding when to actually apply your moisturizer, this is done right after cleansing and before your sunscreen. Make up is applied AFTER your sunscreen.

Skin Care Steps
  • Cleanse (AM/PM)
  • Serum and/or Eye Cream (AM/PM)
  • Moisturizer (AM/PM)
  • Sunscreen (AM) EVERYDAY!!!
  • Exfoliate (3-6 times a week)

I am sure some of you reading this may think that this information is straightforward, but I challenge you to ask your friends about their own routines. I’m often surprised myself when I meet with someone for a consultation that often the steps are mixed up or even forgotten altogether! Let’s help educate each other! Please share this blog and video with others!

Please let me know in the comments below if you have any questions. I would love to hear from you!
